The first patch release for the Caves & Cliffs update on Minecraft: Java Edition was released as version 1.17.1 by developer Mojang.

This update does not add any new features but rather includes some tweaks and fixes to improve the game.

Ultra-rare blue axolotls used to be able to be found in the wild, but they can now only spawn via breeding.

Two new death messages have been added for named aquatic mobs that die on land. These messages are not visible in the in-game chat, only being found in log files on-disk – the logging of deaths of named mobs is also new.

There have also been a few changes to the game's internationalisation. Classical Chinese has been added as a new language, and incomplete languages East Allgovian German, Manx, and Sicilian have been removed fron the game. New characters have also been added to the game's font.

The Caves & Cliffs update was released last month for all platforms as version 1.17.
