Lost for 14 years, the original livestreams that propelled 'Herobrine' into legendary status have been found.
Back on 30 August 2010, Mojang's Minecraft was still in Alpha, with the latest version being v1.0.17_04 at the time.
On that day, a streamer from the Brocraft community named Copeland streamed live gameplay from his normal Minecraft world, with viewers unaware anything suspicious was afoot.
Almost 21 minutes into the livestream, he enters a room in his house, and is faced with "Him" – an entity with the skin of the player, but empty, white eyes – standing ominously in the middle of the room. Screaming, he runs out of the room, and promptly ends the stream.
Copeland posted his footage to the Minecraft Forums, with players debating the legitimacy of the stream footage. It is known now that the entity was, in fact, just a painting.
Despite Herobrine's subsequent explosion into becoming a famous cultural icon, the original streams were deleted soon after publishing.
As such, for the past decade, there has only been scant information available about the original streams, despite much hunting for the original footage by media archivists. After all, Herobrine is the most famous communtiy creation in the history of Minecraft.
Years – over a decade – passed, with no hope in sight of finding the famous livestream footage.
That is, until today, where a YouTube user named "brutallillfjomp" discovered that the livestreams he had downloaded back in the day and backed up privately were, in fact, considered lost to time, after watching a video discussing the streams.
And that was it – the full footage of the original Herobrine livestream, now available for all to see what gave birth to this lingering infamy.
