This fact comes as a disappointment to those who are unwilling to fork out the hundreds of thousands on a VR set and upgrading your PC to be able to support VR, but thanks to the modding community you may soon be able to play Half-Life: Alyx on your PC with a keyboard and mouse.
Ever since the announcement of the VR-exclusivity of Half-Life: Alyx, Valve has obviously been inundated with fans asking them to build a PC port, although this is unfeasible: Half-Life: Alyx was built specifically for VR, and many gameplay elements just will not work outside of VR, such as poking around shelves and performing delicate tasks designed only for VR controllers.
However, the requests for Valve to release non-VR version of the game is the exact reason Walker is looking forward to a modded recreation: he explains that
the game will explain to them why ... we made this choice, and make people realise why Valve has not done so: the game's content has been specifically crafted for VR and a non-VR port will just not do the game justice.
If you're patiently waiting for Valve to learn how to count to three, now is the most optimistic time in the past decade in respect to the Half-Life storyline being continued, with Valve hoping to expand the series in the future.
