After the release of Half-Life: Alyx , we might be closer to Half-Life 3 than you think.
In an interview with Polygon, Valve level designer Robin Walker spoke of the development of Half-Life: Alyx the future of the Half-Life series.
Half-Life: Alyx came about after Valve developed a very short 15-minute prototype to test VR which playtesters spent as much as 45 minutes in. Walker said as soon as we built that prototype and put it in front of people, and talked to them afterwards ... it was obvious
that Valve had found a Half-Life game they knew would be completed.
Walker says that after today's release of Half-Life: Alyx Valve is awaiting feedback on how they did in their first VR title. We haven't made any decisions about what to do next, concretely, because there’s no reason to
, he says. We can wait a week.
On the future of the series, Walker says I'd like to believe that we're as good as we've ever been at building Half-Life at this point, and I hope we continue to make some more. I don't think there's going to be another 13 years
until the next title.
So, Half-Life 3 confirmed? Well, not yet, but let's wait and see what Valve does in the coming years – after years of waiting Valve seems to be returning to their roots.
