In the latest issue of the Edge magazine, Valve's Gabe Newell speaks of the failures of the company's 2018 digital card game Artifact and what the future of the game will be.
Newell says that the developers of Artifact have been working on a new update to reboot the game after receiving negative reviews upon release.
According to Newell, Artifact was an interesting failure in its first go-round
, which was surprising to Valve, who thought that it was a really strong product.
Newell also states that this update has been internally referred to as "Artifact 2", with Valve deciding they must do a larger reboot in order to justify its existence to customers and to markets.
Artifact was released in November 2018 to "generally favourable" reviews, but with a low user rating, receiving very mixed reviews on Steam. Views of the game worsened over time, with Valve announcing this time last year they would be suspending updates to the game.
