A day after Mojang announced a name change, the newly-renamed Mojang Studios has announced updated sales figures for Minecraft.

In a blog post on Xbox.com, the studio head of the game, Helen Chiang, spoke of what has occurred in Minecraft over the past year.

It’s been an incredible year for Minecraft, she says, listing the release of Minecraft Earth, the RTX beta, and becoming the most-viewed game on YouTube for 2019. Future events include the release of Minecraft Dungeons on 26 May – just a week away! – and the Minecraft Nether Update (1.16), releasing this summer (northern hemisphere).

We are humbled that there have now been more than 200 million copies of Minecraft sold to date, says Chiang – an increase of 24 million from the same time last year – and 126 million people are now playing Minecraft every month.

The figures exclude the free-to-play Chinese version, which has over 300 million players alone, bringing the total number of Minecraft players to over half a billion (!).
